Reflecting on the Year: What to Leave Behind and What to Carry Forward

As we approach the end of the year, it’s natural to reflect on how far we’ve come, what we’ve learned, and what we want to leave behind. This is the perfect time to take stock of both personal and business growth. Whether you’re a small business owner, entrepreneur, or content creator, intentional reflection can set the stage for an even more successful year ahead.

Why End-of-Year Reflection Matters

The end of the year is often a time of comparison—seeing others share their revenue numbers, business wins, and social media milestones can make you feel like you’re not doing enough. But here’s the truth: the only comparison that matters is the one with your past self. Instead of measuring success based on someone else’s journey, focus on your own progress. Where were you at the beginning of the year, and where are you now?

What to Leave Behind This Year

  1. Unnecessary Stress Over Content Creation
Content creation doesn’t have to be overwhelming. If you’ve spent the past year feeling stuck or pressured to show up online constantly, it’s time to find a sustainable way to market your business without burnout. (Hint: I can help with that!)

  2. Comparing Your Business Growth to Others
Muting social media accounts that make you feel inadequate is a great way to maintain focus. Your journey is unique, and success is measured in more than just revenue numbers or podcast downloads.

  3. Offers That No Longer Align with Your Goals
This year, I closed out a membership that, while valuable, was draining more energy than it returned. If there’s a service or offer in your business that feels more like a burden than a benefit, consider letting it go.

What to Bring Into the New Year

  1. Clarity and Focus on Your Content Strategy
I spent this year refining my marketing strategy, niching down, and simplifying my offers. The more you focus on what truly matters in your business, the more progress you’ll make. If you haven’t mapped out your content plan for next year, now is the time!

  2. A Commitment to Nurture Content
If you want to sell more in the new year, you need to nurture your audience now. Your potential customers should consistently see and engage with your content—especially during the quiet holiday weeks. (Speaking of which, have you checked out my Holiday Content Bundle?)

  3. A Simplified Approach to Business
My word for the new year? Simplify. Whether it’s decluttering my physical space or streamlining my business processes, I’m committed to making things easier and more effective. What’s your focus for the upcoming year?

A Friendly Reminder: New Year’s Resolutions Are Overrated

I don’t believe you need to wait until January 1st to make changes in your business or personal life. If you want to start something new, do it now. The best time to take action is whenever you decide to.

Your End-of-Year Challenge

Before the year ends, take some time to reflect:

  • What are you leaving behind?
  • What do you want to see more of in your life and business next year?
  • How can you simplify your approach?

Write it down. Don’t just think about it—put it somewhere you can revisit throughout the year.
